Our Latest Book Review: Mistral's Kiss - Laurell K. Hamilton -

Ballantine Books

by Robert "Baby" Walker

In Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry series, the author has weaved a complex and intricate world of danger, seduction and intrigue.

The series centers on the first Faerie Princess ever born on American soil: Meredith. After fleeing the courts in fear for her life, Merry is called home and told to produce an heir to help revive the life and magic of her people who have been slowly fading for centuries.

In her newest novel, Mistral's Kiss (Ballantine Books 2006), Ms. Hamilton has taken her heroine and thrown her to the wolves. The magic and power of fertility and nature have spiraled beyond Merry's control, it appears that the gods who created the Fey have decided to return in full power, awe-inspiring, and at times in terrifying glory.

As a fan of both the author and series, I couldn't put this book down. Ms. Hamilton has done for me what very few others have done - given me a series where I can both cheer the good guy and secretly hope that the bad guy gets out to have his big moment. Fans of the series will be thrilled with this newest adventure. If you are looking for a book along the lines of fairy tales faerie but also something that adults will enjoy, then Mistral's Kiss just might be the best bedtime story you'll read in a very long time.
